THE Best 6 Person 4 Season Tent: Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow 6 Person Tent

The Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow Tent is our top choice among all the 4 season tents 6 person size on the market.

The tent is made of a superior canvas fabric, that will keep the heat inside during the cold days. We love the height in the tent (you can fully stand up), and the 2 big doors with mesh windows.

It’s also our recommended luxury pick for best waterproof 6 person tent, and we recommend the 8 person version as best heavy duty 8 person tent. Overall a very durable tent, that will last you a lifetime!

Best Runner Up 4 Season Tent 6 Person: Vidalido Teepee Family Tent

The Vidalido Teepee Family Tent is the runner up choice for the best 4 season 6 person tent.

It’s a teepee tent, a perfect design to avoid snow stacking up on the tent and making it collapse.

We love how versatile the tent is: in warmer days, you can remove the rain fly to use only the full mesh inner tent, which is perfect for stargazing.

The main drawback is the floor tent; it’s rather thin, and we can see it suffer from a lot of uses. Get an additional waterproof footprint to make sure it will last.

The White Duck Outdoors Avalon Canvas Bell Tent is the best luxury 6 person 4 season tent you’ll ever find. Let’s start with the obvious: it’s absolutely huge! There is plenty of space for your family & friends and you will be comfy inside even in subzero temperatures.

The teepee design is perfect to prevent snow stacking on top, and the water repellent material makes it 100% waterproof.

Despite being heavy, it’s extremely easy to set up and it can be done by 1 person.

We love the stove jack, perfect for bringing a stove in the tent to heat it up when it gets really cold.

Alternative Option for a Six Man 4 Season Tent: High Peak Outdoors Buffalo Hunter Tent

The High Peak Outdoors Buffalo Hunter 6 Person 4 Season Tent is another great option for 6 person 4 season tents.

The teepee design makes it resistant to snow, it’s made of water repellant material and it has a bathtub floor making it 100% waterproof.

The walls are a bit thin, so if you’re going to face extreme cold make sure to bring an adequate sleeping bag.

Overall a good alternative option to consider.

6 Person Tents for Cold Weather

Best 6 Person Winter Tent: NTK Colorado GT Camping Tent

The NTK Colorado GT Camping Tent is our pick for the best 6 person winter tent.

It’s waterproof, and the dome design will help to prevent snow from stacking on top. However it’s not as good as a teepee tent for heavy snowstorms.

The tent has 2 layers, the first one for the tent and a second one with the rainfly; this will keep the heat inside the tent, making it a great choice for cold weather.

Best Runner Up 6 Person Winter Tent: ALPS Mountaineering Taurus 6 Person Tent

And finally the ALPS Mountaineering Taurus 6 Person Tent is our pick for the best runner up 6 person winter tent.

It’s a spacious tent, and the 2 vestibules add extra space for storage. We love how easy it is to set up, and most adults can fully stand up inside (height: 72 inches/1m82).

The floors feel a bit thin, we recommend bringing an additional tent tarp to increase the tent floor’s durability.

Difference Between 4 Season Tents & Cold Weather Tents

As you saw above, I split the tents in this review in 2 categories: 4 season tents and cold weather tents.

But is there any difference between the 2? And if so, what’s the difference?

Alright, let me explain:

A 4 season tent is a tent designed to take it all: from hot & dry weather to rain, strong winds and snowstorms. They’re designed to keep you cool when it’s hot outside, and to keep you warm when it’s cold outside.

Ok, and so what’s the difference with a cold weather tent?

As I mentioned, a 4 season tent is designed to handle snowstorms. Which means it should not collapse under heavy snow stacking on top of it.

And this is the main difference: some tents will keep you warm enough to camp in cold weather, but if it snows a lot, snow will stack up and it will eventually collapse.

The tents I listed as cold weather tents are good for cold weather, but not the best if you’re expecting a lot of snow.

Things to Know About Tent Size

Tent size is a tricky subject.

Most of the time, tents are grouped by size, depending on how many people can sleep inside: 1 person tents, 2 person tents, 4 person tents, and so on.

But how do tents manufacturers define how many people can sleep inside?

They just see how many people can lay down inside the tent, taking all space available.

This means sleeping in a camping bag, with almost no space between people, and it might mean sleeping with heads next to feet.

It also means there will be no extra space for your gear.

Want to be comfortable in your tent? Then you will often have to buy a bigger size tent to make sure that:

  • you have enough space to be comfortable
  • you have space for your gear
  • you can fit inflatable beds

With that being said, some tents are very spacious. It might be listed as a 4 person tent & be very spacious, meaning you’ll fit as 4 + your gear.

If you’re going on a backpacking trip, then size & weight of the tent are very important; in this case, you’ll probably want to get the regular size.
